Hi,

I had an accident 5 years ago which left me with a scar to my front right temple and subsequent thinned hair in the immediate area.  Half a decade on, the scar is somewhat faded but the thin patch largely remains.  Under inspection, using light and mirrors, I can see vellus hair in the area (unpigmented and about 1-5mm long).  I was wondering which of Elsom's products is most adept to 'terminalizing' these minaturized follicles.  If these hairs were 'firing on all cylinders', I'd pretty much be back to how I was.  The affected area covers about 3cm2 and is thin rather than bald and I don't see signs of traditional hair loss.

Thanks for your help,

3cm2.

Hello 3cm2,

The transformation of vellus hair to terminal hair in body skin (not including scalp) is triggered by DHT during puberty. The scalp can grow terminal hair even without DHT prior to puberty, which means that scalp hair growth prior to puberty is not DHT dependent. After puberty, removal of DHT from the balding scalp areas enhances the ability of vellus hair to become terminal. This is explained to be due to over-sensitivity to DHT of follicles in balding scalp areas. Since I am currently writing an article about this issue, I will refrain from further comments on the DHT mechanism in this reply. Because you suffered an injury to the scalp, the new skin which grew is not regular scalp skin but rather scar tissue, which is very different from normal skin. It could be that DHT will actually improve termination of vellus hair in that region in case the special supporting features of scalp skin were lost in that region and it more resembles regular body skin or just scar tissue. It is not so much a problem of the hair follicles as it is a problem of the surrounding/supporting tissue.

I would suggest that you try two of our products which can improve the appearance of terminal hair: Giga-C and Nano-Fibrin. Nano-Fibrin will help in removing external scar tissue which is bulking/densifying the scar area and mechanically squeezes the follicles and hinders access to nutrients. Giga-C is made with a very high concentration of Vitamin C, which is an ingredient known in medicinal formulations to improve the normal collagen elongation process in skin.

Nano-Fibrin should be applied for 5 minutes on the scalp during shampooing, between the first and second shampoo. It should be rinsed thoroughly and Giga-C should be applied to damp scalp and can remain until you take your next shower.

Thank you.
